Text: 1 Corinthians 3:16-17
INTRODUCTION: The story of every revival is always told long after it has passed. Generations that have been involved in great revivals hardly understood what was happening in their own time. But it is painful that most revivals have not maintained their peak of favor over a long period of time. In this study, we shall attempt to know i) What is Revival? ii) Why Revival? Iii) What are the evidences (fruits) of Revival?
1. WHAT IS REVIVAL? HAB. 3:2-4; ACTS 2:1,2
Revival simply means “GOD CAME”. It could also be futuristic “GOD COMES” Joel 2:28-32,. Revival takes place when heavens move their headquarters to the earth to do some unbelievable things.
2. WHY REVIVAL? JUDGES 2:7
(A) That the people may serve the lord.
(B) To counteract backsliding. Judges 2:8-10
(C) To increase Missionary work. Isa. 59:19
(D) To bring restoration to the Church Joel 2:24; Zech. 2:11
3. THE EVIDENCES OF REVIVAL
(A) Fresh Awakening and new sensitivity to sin. Isa. 44;3-5; Num. 23:23, Mk. 7:20; Mt. 8:24-27
(B) Revival brings a new and deep consecration to God. Eph. 4:23-30; Heb. 12:14
(C) Revival brings a fresh loyalty to the Church. Heb. 4:12, 2 Tim. 2:15.
- Concern for Souls
- Insatiable appetite for God's word
(D) Revival brings a new love for the brethren. Gal. 5:22-23, Acts 2:46-47
(E) Revival ushers in a new concern for the lost. Acts . 5:22-23, Mt. 22:10, Jer. 20:9
CONCLUSION
All these evidences of revival are here with us. May we receive grace to understand and launch into the fullness of God's programmes for this movement.
